The Wisconsin School Districts Alliance is commissioned by Education Bureaus in China, Education Groups,  domestic and foreign investment institutions to introduce a full range of quality-oriented courses and management systems for K-12 from Wisconsin School Districts, to provide a range of services for new international schools.

Zhangjiagang Liangfeng  International School 

Introduction

Zhangjiagang Liangfeng International School is a K-12 international bilingual school granted by People’s Government of Zhangjiagang City, and supported and instructed by Zhangjiagang Education Bureau. Based on the century-old prestigious school Jiangsu Province Liangfeng Senior Middle School, our school inherits the high-quality Liangfeng education, keep in step with international development, explore, grow and develop continuously, and provide diversified international courses for all students and parents.

Zhangjiagang Liangfeng International School applies an integrated school system with four sections such as kindergarten, primary school, junior high school, and senior high school. Based mainly on IB curriculum, the school introduces the brand-new American education system and idea, and carries out both bilingual and international curriculum. Each division has its own feature. For instance, the kindergarten section introduces American kindergarten system in full extent, setting up bilingual class and international class; in primary section, there are bilingual classes which combine Chinese core courses with IB featured courses, and international classes which run under PYP curricular system of IB; in junior section, MYP curriculum are referenced; and in senior section, IBDP is completely followed. Our school insists in small-class teaching, bilingual education, and internationalization, providing high-quality and international education.

 Curriculum Provision

1、Kindergarten Section

Kindergarten Section introduces American kindergarten system, teaching all in English. Foreign teachers with rich experience are teaching and in class all day, communicating with students face to face. Our school provides authentic international education environment, teaching English and various disciplinary knowledge in immersion teaching method.

The bilingual class in Kindergarten Section provides mainly interdisciplinary curriculum, reasonably apply local text books, and integrating relevant contents into international curriculum. Through exploration, discussion, cooperation, and etc., students are taught to think, to doubt, to communicate, to imagine, and to develop in a balance way. Curricula such as Language Development (including Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing), The Development of Mathematics, Comprehensive Exploration, Social Development, Art, Music, Swimming, Reading, Physical Education, Extra-curricular Activities, and etc. are offered in our school, encouraging children to have inquiry-based learning.

2、 Primary Section

Bilingual education is carried out in primary section, integrating Chinese and Foreign courses; Chinese courses are based on textbooks designated by the country, while foreign courses are settled on the system of PYP courses.

Chinese: using state-complied textbook for Suzhou, featuring theme-based instruction and reading instruction, and focusing on expanding students’ reading, and improving students’ humanistic quality

Mathematics: carrying out Chinese Mathematics (with state-complied textbook for Suzhou and instructed by Chinese teachers) and English Mathematics (with textbook from Hongkong and instructed by foreign teachers) simultaneously

English: using imported American textbook for the basic curriculum, encouraging students to explore and to innovate, improving students’ capabilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing, all courses taught by foreign teachers

UOI (Unit of Inquiry): following IB PYP courses, approved by Cambridge International Examinations, and covering local and world-wide activities

Bilingual Education: covering mathematics, science, music, art, physical education and etc.

Swimming: listed as a basic mandatory course, and taken as a reference for students’ academic and developmental evaluation, and graduation as well

 

3、Junior Section

Through three-year study in Junior Section, students will make considerable progress in English language knowledge and competence, disciplinary knowledge and skills, as well as learning habit and awareness, meeting the requirement for IB high school courses. Courses in Junior Section connect with those in Senior Section, and, meanwhile, various club classes are opened to help students’ comprehensively develop their quality and capabilities.

English Curriculum: using both American and local textbooks, integrating open teaching method from foreign teachers and rigorous teaching method from Chinese teachers, further improving students’ competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and practicing cross-cultural learning and communicating.

Mathematics Curriculum: using both IB Mathematical textbook and local textbook, allowing the breadth of IB courses and depth of Chinese courses complement each other, and developing students’ both Chinese and English mathematical thinking.

Science Curriculum: based on STEM curriculum, covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, using both American and local textbook, and aiming to develop students’ interest in science

Computer and Information Technology Curriculum: adopting immersion teaching method of foreign teachers, integrating with English curriculum and humanistic curriculum, and to develop students’ independent learning capability

Chinese Curriculum: using Chinese local textbook, guiding students to inquiry-based learning method, to develop students’ Chinese skills, furthering enhancing students’ competence in Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and to acquire basic knowledge of literary review

Humanistic Exploration Curriculum: exploring knowledge of literature in history, geography, and etc., taught with inquiry-based and instructor-led teaching methods from both foreign and Chinese teachers, and to develop students’ humanistic quality

Curriculum for Artistic Accomplishments: covering Music and Fine Arts, and aiming to develop students’ capabilities of appreciation on music and fine arts

Swimming Curriculum: focusing on learning swimming skills, teaching students over two swimming strokes, and to balance students’ both mental and physical development

Club Activities Curriculum: formed spontaneously by students to develop their interests, cultivating st8udents’ capabilities of assisting, communicating, and leading. Currently there are clubs such as cooking, dancing, swimming, skateboard, DIY, guitar, basketball, animation, and etc.

 Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language: targeting foreign students with poor Chinese skills, using Learning Chinese In An Easy Way as the textbook, helping students to develop an interest in Chinese, further improving students’ competence in Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and practicing cross-cultural learning and communicating.

4、Senior Section

IB curriculum is adopted in Senior Section. International Baccalaureate (IB) is an international curriculum designed especially for children of diplomatic envoy and elite students all over the world by International Baccalaureate Organisation under the instruction of UNESCO in 1968. International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a challenging two-year senior high school programme for students aged 16-19, and is recognized by most world-class universities.

The evaluation of IB is a long-term project, and there are different methods and standards of evaluation for different subjects. In addition, the evaluation of language courses consists of not only written examination but also oral language testing. However, for most subjects, the external evaluation is conducted through test in each May on grade-12 students’ level and capabilities. The evaluation is conducted by external staff. IB Organisation will set questions and send out to schools. After students answering questions, papers are sent back to IB Organisation and graded. The score range for each subject is from 1 to 7, with a total of 6 subjects (42 marks) and an additional mark of 3 for knowledge theory, extended essay, and creative actions and services. The full mark for IB is 45.

Take one from the following groups of disciplines respectively:

Group 1: Language A First Language – Chinese, Korean

Group 2: Language B Second Language - English

Group 3: Individual and Social Research (Economics, Business Management)

 Group 4: Experimental Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental System)

Group 5: Mathematics

Group 6: Visual Arts or elective courses (one subject from Group 3 or 4)

Meanwhile, students have to learn a two-year curriculum of Knowledge Theory, in order to complete extended essay and to join in activities for the curriculum of Creative Actions and Services.

For 2018 Autumn, Freshmen for Kindergarten Section, Primary Section, Junior Section, and Senior Section are recruited, while a small amount of transferred students are also accepted for different grades. Enrollment Plan is shown as follows:

2、Method of Recruitment

Students of Kindergarten Section and Primary Section should have an face-to-face interview with Chinese and Foreign teachers, and be admitted when passing the interview. Students for Junior and Senior Sections should take both interviews and written examinations in both English and Chinese; written examinations covers Mathematics and English.
